(International Program) Training Plan
1. Training Objectives
The 3+2 bachelor’s and master’s degree program is an education model designed for international students. After completing three years of undergraduate studies at their home universities, students may apply to pursue a two-year master’s program at the school of International Studies, University of International Business and Economics (UIBE). This program aims to cultivate high-level, application-oriented, and specialized translation professionals with:
l Solid bilingual (English-Chinese) proficiency.
l Mastery of translation skills and technologies.
l Strong professional ethics and industry insights.
l Cross-cultural communication capabilities and expertise in business, economics, finance, management, law, and international communication.
l Competence to undertake translation practice in global business contexts.
2. Professional Requirements
Upon graduation, students will attain the following professional competencies:
(1) Language & Technical Competence
l Proficient bilingual expression and necessary theoretical knowledge of translation.
l Familiarity with modern translation technologies and language service industry standards.
l Adherence to professional ethics.
(2) Cross-Cultural & Interdisciplinary Expertise
l Deep understanding of Chinese and international cultures, enriched general knowledge.
l Strong cross-cultural communication skills.
l Specialized knowledge in business, economics, finance, management, law, and international communication.
(3) Career Readiness
l Capability to work in governmental departments, international organizations, or enterprises for roles such as diplomatic reception, business communication, translation project management, and international outreach.
3. Credit Requirements
(1) Minimum Credits: 34 credits, including:
l Courses:28 credits
l Practicum: 6 credits
(2) Graduate course selection, course assessment, performance evaluation, and credit transfer shall strictly comply with the relevant provisions of UIBE’s Graduate Course Enrollment and Academic Performance Management Regulations.
(3) Students with undergraduate backgrounds in language and literature shall prioritize “Business-related” and “Translation-related” courses during their graduate studies; students with undergraduate backgrounds in economics, management, law, or related fields shall prioritize “Language-related” and “Translation-related” courses.
4. Practicum
(1) Computer-assisted Translation Practice
Computer-assisted translation practice may be conducted in the university’s interpretation/translation laboratories or on personal computers/mobile devices using translation software.
For laboratory practice: Students must complete over 10 translation sessions (90 minutes per session) using lab software. Sign-in/sign-out records must be logged on the laboratory attendance sheet, and practice logs (e.g., screenshots or photos) must be maintained.
For personal device practice: Students must maintain continuous practice or check-in records (e.g., screenshots, photos, audio recordings, or text logs).
All methods: The total translated content must exceed 10,000 characters. All practice records must be submitted to the school for review before the mid-term assessment.
(2) On- and Off-Campus Translation Practice
This component emphasizes the development of translation competence and case analysis. Translation practice is integrated throughout the entire teaching process, with content assigned by the advisor or self-selected under advisor guidance.
Translation: Complete over 150,000 characters of translation. Submit translated texts with advisor’s signature for verification.
Interpretation: Complete at least 10 hours of interpretation practice. Submit certification materials (e.g., event records, audio recordings) with advisor’s signature.
All materials must be submitted to the school for review before the mid-term assessment.
5. Graduation Requirements & Degree Granted
(1) Students in this program must meet the following conditions to graduate:
l Completion of personalized training plan;
l Fulfillment of credit requirements with all courses and components passed;
l Compliance with the university’s student status regulations and other relevant administrative policies;
l Successful thesis defense.
(2) The thesis process (including proposal, writing, plagiarism check, external review, and defense) must strictly follow the relevant regulations of the university’s graduate degree management.
(3) This program awards the Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI) degree.
